This started out as prearranging a funeral for my mom and ended up planning an actual funeral service. There were complications with the life insurance benefits and I could not have resolved this issue without the help of the funeral home staff. I feel they went above and beyond with their assistance. Back in 1995, we set up a bank trust at another local funeral home which at the time was locally owned. In 2012, we were contacted by a pre-planning counselor who worked for the corporation that now owns that funeral home. She informed us that there was not enough money in the trust to bury our loved one. This was very confusing to us as we were told when the trust was made that everything would be covered. When the time of need came, we asked the hospital to instead call the Taylor & Stine Funeral Home. They arranged to have the pre-arrangement transferred over the next morning which confirmed we now had over $13,000 in the funeral trust. Despite the fact we had excess funds in the trust, we never felt pressured to spend any more than we needed; as a matter of fact, we were constantly reminded by the funeral home staff to be conservative with our purchases. In the end, we went from having too little in the pre-arranged funeral trust according to this “local expert” to having over $2000 returned to the estate when everything was completed. Thank you to Leah and Rick for having a truly locally owned funeral home and allowing us to say goodbye in a manner which our loved one would have wanted, while still being economically responsible.
